Mayor Bill Kolas
Welcome to the website of Higginsville, Missouri, a city with a long history of success since it was founded in 1869 by Harvey Higgins. Higginsville operates as a fourth class city with a mayor-alderman-city administrator form of government. Having a strong farm heritage, the City’s goal of balanced growth between residential and business is based on traditional values and progressive leadership. We are proud to provide citizens with state-of-the-art municipal owned electric, water, and sanitary sewer utilities. Competitive rates, quality service and quick response time are advantages we enjoy by having locally owned utilities.
The city leaders continue to look ahead to the needs of the citizens. A new city comprehensive plan is addressing important issues such as city services, retention of current businesses and attracting new ones, jobs, population growth, affordable housing, recreation, transportation, highways and roads, and education.
The geographical location of Higginsville in Lafayette County allows citizens and visitors alike to enjoy the easy, relaxed way of life in this rural setting. Just as important, is the city’s proximity to I-70 and the many opportunities that await our citizens in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Given our location, Higginsville can offer the best of both worlds.
